The Nine (and a Half) Funniest Sex Scenes in Movies

It’s really easy for sex scenes in movies to take themselves entirely too seriously. That’s not to say that they’re ineffective. They’re just so over the top sometimes. And to be honest, I think that’s why I take so much delight when a film holds nothing sacred about it and does a full-on spoof. Here are my nine favorite and/or funniest sex scene spoofs (and a bonus tenth from the same movie). Warning: these scenes are very much NSFW, and probably offensive to some.

1. The Naked Gun: From the Files of Police Squad (1988)
Leave it to Frank Drebin, the morally upright (if misguided) Reagan-era supercop to practice safe sex that’s this safe:

2. Bad Santa (2003)
There are so many payoffs here- the locale, Billy Bob Thornton’s dialogue, and the image of Santa’s pants around his ankles whilst doing the deed.

3. Bananas (1971)

Sadly, I can find no video. But how can you turn down a sex scene- one that consummates a marriage- that features commentary by Howard Cosell reporting for ABC’s Wide World of Sports

4. Team America: World Police (2004)
It just kept going and going and going. I was honestly embarrassed by how hard I laughed when I saw this in the theater.

5. Diner (1982)
The set-up is classic young-people-trying-to-get-laid highjinx. And Rourke’s reaction after getting busted is pure gold.

6. American Pie (1999)

Who said anything about funny sex scenes involving both a man AND a woman? Or that pastries were excluded? Again, I can’t find a clip but odds are good that you’ve either seen or heard about the scene in question, in which Jason Biggs’ character defiles a pie. And trust me- don’t go looking for the video. I tried and unearthed a ton of things I wish I hadn’t.

7 and 7 1/2. MacGruber (2010)
Like Bad Santa, there are a lot of payoffs here. And like Team America, it just keeps going and going and going. Usually, when sound goes dead in a movie, it’s a setup for a horror shock. In MacGruber, it’s used to set up the yuks. And that’s followed by great dialogue from both of them… which leads to another ridiculous, absurd, hilarious sex scene with equally great dialogue. And there’s also the spectacularly over the top use of Mr. Mister’s Take These Broken Wings. Oh, and uh… fair warning, if you watch this video, you’re going to see Will Forte’s ass.

8 1/2. Dead Alive (1992)
Way back before Peter Jackson made the Lord of the Rings trilogy or even The Frighteners, he made a really fantastic gross-out zom com called Dead Alive. And it features- you guessed it- two zombies going at it.

9 1/2. Animal House (1978)

The angel vs. devil bit wasn’t anything new, really. In the very least, you could find the schtick being used in Looney Tunes cartoons. But I doubt it’d ever been used for anything as insidious as what young Pinto is contemplating here. You can find the clip here.

I love Bad Santa. I don’t know which is funnier: the dressing room tryst or the “fornication” discussion to follow.

Team America is also an awesome movie. If you thought the theatrical version was funny, you should watch it uncensored. The sex scene was the only scene edited for the original release. Orgazmo is another Trey & Matt flick that has funny sex scenes, especially the one with T-Rex.

And finally, although I hate to admit it, I watched MacGruber on HBO recently. Holy crap… that was extremely uncomfortable to watch.

    • I think I accidentally found the full uncensored ‘Team America’ scene. I couldn’t believe what all they included in it.

My admission is that I loved MacGruber when I never ever ever expected to. I laughed a ton at that movie.

Well, I didn’t hate MacGruber. The scene I thought to be funniest was when he’s begging Ryan Phillipe’s character not to fire him or whatever, asking things like what object in the room he should, um, you know. That was pretty hilarious.

  2. Ha! I agree with every one. I’m so glad you included the Popcorn bit from Diner, because a few months ago I was having a discussion with friends about this very subject, and none of them recalled Diner. I scolded them, and forced them all to watch it.

There is one, perhaps the funniest one I can remember, and I’m surprised you didn’t include it. Especially after seeing the Bananas scene. It was the scene where Woody Allen gets stuck by himself in the love making machine in Sleeper! I don’t think I ever laughed so hard at a love scene in my life!

What about John Cleese in Monty Python’s The Meaning of Life when he’s teaching the class and using his wife as a.. ahem…. teacher’s aide?

I would rather watch an A Serbian Film/Salo double feature with my parents than watch MacGruber again. The sex scenes were the best part, by far. Everything else was just painful.

I really love “Bananas” – maybe more than “Annie Hall” or “Sleepers.” I know I’m being blasphemous right now but comments can be a great place to say things you might not utter in an article of your own.

    • I haven’t seen Sleepers in forever (and never start to finish) so it’s not fair for me to judge on that one, but I definitely prefer ‘Bananas’ to ‘Annie Hall’. It’s one of my 3 or 4 favorite Woody Allen movies.

  7. Cool list, my personal favorite is from American Pie
