Chart: How the Outside Temperature Affects My Theater Habits

The heat has been ruthless lately. High temperatures in St. Louis the last five days: 99, 107, 104, 103, and 101. The next seven days are all supposed to be 97 and above. And this ridiculous heat wave is messing with my desire to go to the theater. Movie theaters are notorious for blasting their air conditioners, and it’s a serious draw for them this time of year. I find myself thinking about going to see movies I wouldn’t normally see simply so I can sit in the awesome theater air conditioning for 2 to 3 hours. I’ve illustrated my point with a chart that shows how likely I am to go to the theater to see various movies that are in theaters right now, and how that likelihood is affected by outside temperatures.

  1. This is the type of scientific analysis that people have grown to rely on here.

Keep up the good work, John! :D

  2. Love the chart. I actually kinda wanna see Magic Mike, though.

  3. I find this funny because it’s winter where I live and it is fucking freezing. And I haven’t been to the cinema in more than a month.

  4. Hah, nice chart. I am seriously considering taking a day this week/weekend to just spend the entire afternoon/evening in a theater. My apartment’s AC isn’t cutting it.
